Juneteenth Episode: Supporting Black Owned Restaurants

After everything that has happened in the last few weeks, many of us have taken the time to revisit our history, reflect on our personal relationship with race and consider better ways to lift, empower and celebrate a community that has given us so much.

Last weekend, we celebrated Juneteenth, which is officially on June 19th. It's a different kind of Independence Day and a way to honor Freedom Day or the day the last remaining enslaved Americans were freed in the Confederacy. 

Clearly, as we've all witnessed, there's still a lot of work to be done and everything we can do to continue the dialogue and support our African American community makes a difference. That's why, in the spirit of Juneteenth, last week we joined Black People Eats in highlighting delicious black owned restaurants in Chicago. Founder Jeremy Joyce has created an excellent directory connecting people with Black owned food and beverage restaurants and companies in various cities. 

Joyce told Eater that Chicago has the most black-own restaurants in America, which should give you a good enough reason to expand your list of favorites.
