How to make Indonesian Internet

Meet Internet... Indomie Telur Kornet. This peculiar Indonesian street food dish is taking Youtube by storm, and after giving it a go, we can see why. It’s made by combining the incredibly addictive Indomie instant noodles with canned corned beef and a delightful fried egg on top. Some people also add bok choy and other veggies, but that part is completely optional.

Already being big fans of Puerto Rican style corned beef and rice, which is made by mixing fries, onions and tomato sauce, we knew right off the bat that this was going to be something we would love. It’s not healthy by any means, and it does not need to be. It’s comforting street food at its finest. And we dare say even better after a hangover.

A big thanks to our Youtube friends Nick and Helmi, and Two Hungry Diners for introducing us to such a delicious treat. Both couples are creators from Australia covering the local food scene and traveling to exciting places around the world. Go check them out!

If you’re ready to try this perfect storm, here’s how we made it. You should really try to find Indomie instant noodles since they have a very unique flavor, but if it’s not possible any good instant noodle should be ok.

Indomie Telur Kornet
-Serves two
  • 2 packages of Indomie (preferably chicken-flavored)
  • 1/2 Can of corned beef
  • 2 eggs
  • Butter or oil for cooking
  • Green onions to your liking, chopped finely

1. Sauté half a can of corned beef with a drop of oil or butter. Set aside.

2. Fry each egg and set aside.

3. Prepare the noodles by following the instruction. We recommend not boiling the noodles too long so they stay somewhat firm. Drain and add the seasoning in a separate bowl.

4. Then assemble your bowl with the noodles at the bottom. Sprinkle with green onions and get ready to mix and enjoy bibimbap style.
