The warm weather that comes with spring is not the only thing that’ll make you excited about this season. Pastoral’s new seasonally-focused menu offers a variety of creative sandwiches, salads, small plates and rustic entrees. Although many of them are cheese-centric, the chefs at Pastoral did a very good job of celebrating the spring greens, the bounty of fruit and other great local ingredients.
This past weekend, Nabol and I enjoyed brunch at their Andersonville location, courtesy of Pastoral. We were pleasantly surprised with the range of prices and the options available. (Seasonally-focused in other places usually means a pricier menu, but not here.) Nabol decided to go for the Mediterranean Turkey Sandwich with housemade pesto, white bean puree, red onion and oven-roasted tomatoes, while I ordered the delicious daily frittata with lots of cheese and veggies, house potatoes and toast.

If you are into sweeter brunch dishes, Pastoral also has French toast grilled cheese and Ricotta fritters with passion fruit curd. Their Blue Pig N’ Fig Sandwich with Serrano ham and local fig also sounds pretty amazing. Alongside the food menu, Pastoral offers bottomless mimosas during brunch time and a very complete wine menu.
Overall, a good new option for brunch, lunch or dinner. Their location in Andersonville is also casual enough to come any day of the week. And while you’re there, you may want to check out their cheese shop with lots of interesting products. Check them out next time you are in Andersonville or any of their locations in Lakeview, the Loop or the Chicago French Market.
